From ‘Wonder Woman’ to ‘Rosie the Riveter’, WACS and WASPS and everyday heroes, World War II forever transformed women in America. This is one of the first documentaries to give full voice to the real women behind the stock female images and footage of that turbulent and determined era. These are not your father’s war stories; these are the untold stories of World War II’s most essential, but often overlooked, American fighting forces. Women served in various war support capacities during the war, stepping into positions traditionally held by men. Many of them have never fully shared their stories with their children. This program introduces baby boomers to the heroes that they probably never knew their mothers were, while at the same time reconnecting many of the women of WWII with nostalgic memories of their youth.
